Like a highly anticipated movie sequel, we’ve returned with Part 2 of our previous blog addressing the theme of “Valentines Through the Ages.” We’ll rehash and recap and also leave you with something new.

Last time, in Part 1, we talked about outfits curated specifically for Valentine’s Day dates or outings based on age ranges. We figuratively walked around PEcado’s storefront and examined the window displays, which showcased four mannequins – Flirty Femme, Sensible Seductress, Marvelous Matriarch, and Glamorous Granny.

As we discussed particular items and who they were ideal for, we then turned it all topsy-turvy and said that everyone really ought to wear what they want – societal rules be darned. After all, why bother wearing something you don’t like just because someone said you should? And that’s where this sequel picks up.

Fashion is like an express train with the captain representing a group of selective designers and “celebrities” that dictates what route you should take when it comes to “your” choice in fashion. Whether you get on the train by choice or by mistake, you may find yourself struggling to find pieces that would look flattering on you. And it doesn’t help that society has created a strong consumer market focused on External Attractiveness (a subject we’ll discuss in much depth during our next seminar) as a bandage to lack of confidence, low self-esteem, fear of rejection, and other negative feelings one may experience. For that reason, media, reading materials like magazines, books, and all promo materials are focused on influencing you to wear what is trendy versus what works for you, specifically according to your body type, skin tone, and color of your eyes, hair – the end result being disappointment!

We say there is no power one should have over you to determine what you wear! No opinion should rule over you and your style except your own! To reiterate the sentiment that Part 1 concluded with: the point of style is that you wear what you like and what you feel good in!

So, if you didn’t like our age ranges or the outfits that accompanied them, kick ‘em to the curb–the Howard or Lake Street curbs, to be precise! We are not the end-all-be-all when it comes to your style or fashion sense. When it comes to being a high-end fashion boutique, our role is to help you better understand yourself within the realm of fashion, regardless of age, because style is ageless. We want you to feel phenomenal in whatever you wear, no matter the day of the year, but we also want you to feel fabulous on Valentine’s Day.

Maybe you’ve got a special date planned with a special someone, or perhaps you’re going the Galentine’s Day route and celebrating the love of friendship–either way, we’re here as a resource to help you feel your best! You might fall into the age range of 40 to 60, but you want a fun and edgy look like our Sensible Seductress or Flirty Femme. Or you might be a mature 25-year-old who wants to rock the Marvelous Matriarch vibe of sophistication and refinement.

Don’t let others or the enigmatical “they” of society and the fashion industry tell you what you can and can’t wear or where you can wear something – some of our recent social media photoshoots are working to dispel the idea that you can only wear certain clothes to certain places. We encourage you to wear an evening gown to your favorite restaurant, a full-on leather ensemble to a coffee date, or a cocktail dress to a fast-food establishment because why not?

So often, we have clients go through the store and admire certain outfits or items but lament the alleged fact that they have “nowhere to wear” said piece. So this Valentine’s Day, we challenge you to wear *that* outfit, dress, top–whatever it happens to be – because if you love it, you’ll rock it! And isn’t the holiday all about love? Not just romantic love, but loving yourself and loving what you wear! And as a big part of PEcado family, we want to see you at that exact moment!!
