With every revolution around the sun, Pantone announces its color of the year, and retailers, clothing companies, and home decor businesses leap to create items to match. Viva Magenta, Very Peri, Greenery, Rose Quartz, Tangerine Tango, Marsala, etc., are all fun colors that add pops and punches wherever they’re used, fashion included. But some people shy away from the Pantone colors, or any color for that matter, in lieu of the anti-color – black.

When it comes to fashion, black is flattering; black is slimming; black looks good on just about everyone. It’s classic, simple, and utterly effortless. However, black can be underwhelming at times. Sometimes a pop of color or an all-color outfit is just what the day or event calls for.

Now we’re not suggesting you go full Pantone from head to toe just yet. We recognize that many may feel most comfortable in black, and the thought of introducing any color is terrifying. Change can be scary; trying something new can be intimidating, but perhaps adding some colorful accessories to your practically all-black ensemble will breathe new life into a tried-and-true outfit that needs a revamp.

Once you go black, you never go back

As mentioned above, black clothing is a friend to almost everyone. Staples like a little black dress, black trousers, or black pumps are great basic pieces for any closet or capsule wardrobe – you can never go wrong with classic and timeless items. And once you step over to the dark side, favoring a mostly or all-black wardrobe, it’s not always easy to switch back to the light and colorful side. Why, you might ask? Well, the most common reason is that black goes well with everything, especially black. You don’t have to worry about trying to match colors or making sure a particular color is flattering to your skin tone – black is black. The ease of black may draw you in and get you comfortable, but also, perhaps, a tad fearful of other hues and shades.

As we all know, not many enjoy getting out of their comfort zone. But once you figure out what stops you from wearing color (Alona Kelly, the owner of PEcado and “IDEAL” Law to Success, and her psycho-genetic expertise can help you), your level of confidence goes up, self-esteem grows day by day, and you become more decisive, active, efficient, and more successful in all areas of your life.

Since you’ve stayed away from color for a while, it might be difficult for you to add in some colorful attributes. If you are concerned about shocking your senses as you segue from the darkest dark to the brightest colors, well…we’re here to digitally hold your hand and guide you through the process of adding color, bit by bit, so you can enjoy both ends of the spectrum.

Don’t fear the rainbow

Colors don’t need to be feared but rather explored and experimented with! Whether you never took the time to educate yourself on how to pair colors or simply shun color as a result of a conscious or subconscious fear (being the center of attention, for example), don’t let your past impede your desire for fun and fashion!

While you are taking time to figure out the reason for your color aversion, allow us to slowly and strategically introduce elements of color to an all-black ensemble to show how you can painlessly transition into a full-color look.

Phase 1

We begin with an all-black outfit – top, bottoms, and shoes. It’s both simple and sophisticated.

Phase 2

Add a white purse to the black ensemble (psst…the white purse has silver elements that will keep your outfit less dressy compared to gold; plus, it still has some black features that will tie to the overall look – the devil is in the details).

Phase 3

Change into a white skirt with silver embellishments that complement the purse’s metal features.

Phase 4

Swap the silky black tank for a soft and muted light blue cami.

Phase 5

Trade the black-heeled sandals for white sandals, which removes the last vestiges of black – notwithstanding the minor black details on the purse.

Phase 6

Substitute the white shoes and white purse for some pink options. Pink is blue’s favorite friend when it comes to bright colors.

Phase 7

Keep the purse, add some bubblegum pink slingback pumps, and toss on a perfectly tailored sky-blue blazer. Based on your height, a cropped or shorter blazer / jacket might be a good option for you.

Phase 8

Switch from the cami, skirt, and blazer into this fuchsia pink dress to complete your fashion transition!

Success! We went from a safe head-to-toe black look to a fully-fledged color look using all bright pieces. And we even introduced a couple of Pantone colors in the process: 2000’s Cerulean and 2001’s Fuchsia Rose!

How do we know these looks are solid? Well, we had a client purchase Phase 7 while we were assembling it for you, so we not only went from black to color but from black to SOLD in the process of drafting this blog post!

Have a wonderful transformation, ladies! Please tag us on Facebook or Instagram as you take these ideas and implement them into your life. We’ll be excited to see your individual progress. And if you need any assistance, Alona is here to help you.
